• What does Pivot Bio sell?

  Currently, Pivot Bio offers biological nitrogen to U.S. farmers to replace synthetic fertilizer. Until now, synthetic fertilizer has been the primary way for farmers to feed the world but is one of agriculture’s leading contributors to global greenhouse gas emissions and a significant driver of poor water quality, biodiversity loss, and air pollution. • Can farmers confidently replace a portion of their synthetic fertilizer with Pivot Bio’s microbial nitrogen?

  Yes. From 2015-2022, Pivot Bio has collaborated with more than 15 universities and other third parties to demonstrate efficacy across different geographies and weather conditions while following label directions. Top findings consistently demonstrate that our leading product PROVEN^® 40:

  • Increased nitrogen and potassium uptake, resulting in greater plant biomass (North Carolina State University)
  • Reduced nitrate leaching by an average of 9 pounds per acre (Iowa State University)
  • Supported reduced synthetic fertilizer use and produced more pounds of crop per bushel (University of Georgia)
  • Delivered yields comparable to grower standard rate using less synthetic nitrogen, which aligns with our goal to maintain or improve yield while delivering other critical benefits to growers (Purdue University)

• Does Pivot Bio conduct yield studies?

  Pivot Bio partnered with multiple universities to conduct structured trials to confirm that our products maintain or improve yield while delivering on what we promise: helping growers achieve better profitability, predictability, safety and sustainability.

  Our value proposition to growers is not based on yield improvements alone. Pivot Bio PROVEN^® 40 consistently demonstrates that it efficiently and reliably replaces up to 40 pounds per acre of synthetic nitrogen while maintaining yield and, in many cases, improving yield.

  We regularly evaluate productivity and profitability by measuring nitrogen in the plant. Measuring leaf chlorophyll content and the above-ground biomass of whole plants shows the nitrogen advantage of corn plants grown with Pivot Bio PROVEN^® 40 compared to grower standard practice without Pivot Bio PROVEN^® 40. Our 2022 performance data features results from thousands of real, on-farm studies conducted on more than one million U.S. acres and demonstrates the viability of Pivot Bio products on various soil types and conditions. Study results show 12% more plant biomass and 14% more in-plant nitrogen, resulting in increased biomass, more nitrogen in the plants and healthier, more productive crops.

• What do you think about those who are skeptical about using biologicals?

  Innovative ideas and technologies naturally attract a range of opinions from skeptics to enthusiastic early adopters. We believe that by sharing research and performance results people will better understand the benefits our product provides farmers and the planet. Pivot Bio is a revolutionary market and environmental solution – for the acres of farmland that require efficient nitrogen and in the volume of synthetic fertilizer we can replace with a more effective, more sustainable, safer product. Our technology represents a breakthrough innovation for agriculture because it does not ask the grower to make tradeoffs.

• I have read a few studies critical of biologicals. What is Pivot Bio’s response to those results

  The simplest answer is that some studies continue to ask the wrong question when evaluating our products. For over 100 years, the only way to evaluate synthetic nitrogen was limited to improving yield. That binary worldview is as outdated as synthetic nitrogen itself.

  Our promise to growers is that our products support better profitability, predictability, safety, and sustainability while maintaining yield. And even then, many third-party studies show that our products often improve yield. But it is not our only measure of success. Our customers understand this and have seen the results first-hand, while some industry insiders are still adapting to this new mindset.
